| Résumé : |
The present study is part of a scientific approach aimed at investigating the efficacy of a natural co-product made from two natural components: Marrubium vulgare L. (white horehound), a medicinal plant commonly used in phytotherapy, and potassium alum, a salt renowned for its astringent and antiseptic virtues. This work aims to determine the total polyphenol and flavonoid content of the decocted extract (ED) of the M. vulgare plant and to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the plant extract alone or in a mixture with potassium alum. M. vulgare ED has moderate levels of polyphenols (0.12 ± 0.01 mg EAG/g E) and flavonoids (2.08 ± 0.23 mg EQ/g E). The potassium alum (SA) solution showed better antibacterial activity against Streptococcus oralis bacteria than the other fractions tested, with an inhibition diameter of 7 mm. M.vulgare DE showed a scavenger effect on the DPPH radical with an IC50 value of (0.145 ± 0.006 mg/mL). In the ferrous iron chelation assay, the IC50 value obtained for ED (1.006 ± 0.18 mg/mL) is extremely higher than that of standard EDTA (0.0058 ± 0.00008 mg/mL). This study supports the use of the plant and potassium alum in traditional medicine. |
