In a context of dwindling water resources in Algeria, this final year thesis is part of an approach to optimizing irrigation in agriculture, through the performance evaluation of a small-scale pivot system applied to alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) cultivation in the Hadjout region (wilaya of Tipaza). The study was conducted on two experimental plots, each cultivated with a different variety of alfalfa, and focused on analyzing water requirements using the Penman-Monteith method, monitoring soil moisture, vegetative growth, as well as water use efficiency (WUE) and the economic profitability of the system. The results reveal that the small-scale pivot, despite its technical simplicity, ensures relatively uniform water distribution, while reducing energy costs and maintaining satisfactory productivity in a constrained environment. This system thus appears to be a viable solution for small farms, subject to rigorous irrigation management and appropriate technical support. |
