| Résumé : |
This study focuses on the ethnobotany, morphology and anatomy of the Salvia barrelieri species in the Tipaza region (Algeria).
The main objective is to gain a better understanding of the traditional use and biological characteristics of this medicinal plant, which is still little studied locally. To this end, we carried out 60 surveys in several localities in the Tipaza wilaya in order to gather popular knowledge relating to its use. At the same time, a morphological and anatomical analysis of the plant was carried out to document its essential botanical features. The results show that S. barrelieri grows in specific areas of the region, but is little known to the local population. However, some of those interviewed mentioned its use as an herbal tea to relieve digestive pains. It is also reported to have industrial applications, particularly in cosmetics. In addition, other studies have shown that S. barrelieri is rich in secondary metabolites, such as diterpenes, triterpenes and flavonoids, known for their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. These results underline the importance of continuing research into this species in order to fully explore its medicinal uses and the potential for local use.
