| Résumé : |
The massive use of pesticides on stored food products to protect against harmful insects requires alternative solutions that are more environmentally friendly and ecological than those currently used. Among these solutions, the use of biodegradable plant-based biopesticides appears to be a promising alternative to reduce the issues caused by chemical products.
This study aims to evaluate the contact toxicity of the essential oil of Pistacia lentiscus L. on stored-product insects, specifically on adult Rhyzopertha dominica F. (lesser grain borer), under laboratory conditions.
Adult mortality rates varied depending on the dose and the duration of exposure to the essential oil. The most significant result was observed at a concentration of 30 µl/ml, where a high mortality rate of 82.22% was recorded after four days of treatment, highlighting the effectiveness of this oil in the biological control of stored-product insects.
The results show a toxic effect on R. dominica adults. The lethal doses estimated to kill 50% and 90% of the insect population (LD50 and LD90) are 14.55 µl/ml and 132.86 µl/ml respectively.
The studied plant appears promising as a source of bioinsecticide and opens up interesting prospects for research in the field of biological control.
