| Résumé : |
This research focused on evaluating the phytochemical, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-biofilm, and anti-inflammatory properties of Psidium guajava L. (guava) leaves collected from Bou-Ismaïl (Tipaza, Algeria). Bioactive compounds were extracted using a Soxhlet apparatus with a methanol (80%)/water (20%) mixture, yielding 6.35%. HPLC analysis identified thirteen phenolic and flavonoid compounds, including gallic acid, myricetin, and apigenin. Antioxidant activity was assessed through total polyphenol content (232.5904 µg GAE/mg extract), DPPH radical scavenging (IC50 = 8 mg/L), and FRAP method (258.153 µmol Fe²⁺/g dry extract). The antimicrobial activity was tested against thirteen bacterial strains (three reference, five pathogenic, and five multidrug-resistant) and one fungal strain (Candida albicans). The results showed moderate to notable antibacterial activity and up to 93% biofilm inhibition on E. coli ATCC, S. aureus, E. faecalis, and S. oralis. The anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated in vitro by inhibiting protein denaturation, with a rate of 85.5%, comparable to diclofenac. These results confirm the therapeutic potential of Psidium guajava leaves as a natural source of antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-biofilm agents. |
