| Résumé : |
Cutaneous candidiasis, mainly caused by Candida albicans, is a common infection, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Given the limitations of conventional antifungal treatments and the emergence of drug resistance, natural alternatives are increasingly being explored. Among these, the essential oil of Syzygium aromaticum (clove), which is rich in eugenol, exhibits interesting antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.
This study aims to evaluate the antifungal activity of two topical formulations (gel and cream) based on clove essential oil against Candida albicans, using an induced cutaneous candidiasis model in immunosuppressed rats. The study includes both inVitro and inVivo experiments, assessing antifungal efficacy and cutaneous tolerance.
The results show notable efficacy for both formulations, with the gel demonstrating superior performance over the cream in reducing clinical signs and fungal load. These findings support the potential of the clove oil-based gel as a promising natural alternative to conventional antifungal treatments.
